Plovdiv – Shiroka Laka

In the architectural and ethnographic reserve Shiroka Laka there are numerous of houses preserving the typical Rhodope architecture, cobblestone streets and arched bridges over the river. The typical speech, songs and customs of the local people will immerse you in the atmosphere of this charming village.

There are 90 sites declared as monuments of culture. The oldest one dates back from the early 19th century. One of the most emblematic places that you can visit is the Ethnographic Museum Zgurovski Konak, arranged as a Rhodope house from the end of XIX century. The Assumption of Virgin Mary church, was built in 1834 for 38 days, by the overall population of Shiroka Laka village. Other interesting site is the home of the Bulgarian Orthodox priest Exarch Stefan I, the monument of Captain Petko Voivode and the house, which was his headquarters.

In the center of the village is situated the Tourist Information Centre. Only 7 km away from Shiroka Laka in the direction of Devin you can enjoy the view of:  Bedenska spas, Rock Phenomenon Momata and Glavata, Liatna Gora and St. Theodore Stratilat, St. St. Cyril and Methodius and St. Athanasius  chapels.
